Living Hope – 1 Peter

Do you know the pressure of living as a follower of Christ in this world? Pressure to conform – to act, speak and think as our culture does. Peter understands this pressure. He writes to those who are strangers and foreigners in this world, undergoing all kinds of trials and suffering because they follow Christ. And he writes to remind them of who they are – strangers with regard to the world, but precious to the God who called them and set them apart as his very own – his treasured possession. Those who have a Living Hope.

This Living Hope is not wishful thinking, but is solid and certain – based on the historical fact of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the unchanging nature of God. Because Jesus will never perish, but has new and indestructible life, so those who belong to hime receive an imperishable inheritance. And because God never changes his mind, a believer is unshakeably secure with him.

Peter will outline for us what it means to live as a stranger in this world while belonging to the next. He will help us as we suffer, struggle and sin to look to our saviour and our Hope, and so to keep standing in the true grace of God.
