This term we are going to take a quick, guided tour of the whole bible, looking at the theme of gathering and scattering.
Our world is a place of fractured relationships – from the family to international relations. It is hard to maintain harmony. And yet we will see through the whole sweep of human history, God has been about bringing people together by bringing them to him. Blessing is being gathered together and gathered to God. Whereas when we reject God, we reject the one that can bring us peace and we experience fractured relationships. God even scatters sinful humanity in our rebellion against him – this is what it is to experience curse.
As we go through the whole bible story, we will see that God does not leave his people scattered, but seeks them out, gathering them back to himself. Amazingly, the local church is central to how God does this, so we are going to see the significance of this little local gathering in the grand purposes of God.
This series builds upon the work of Christopher Ash in his book Remaking a Broken World.
